Abstract

People in contemporary civilization suffer from a wide range of psychological problems. Depression and anxiety are the most frequent forms of mental illnesses, and they have a profound influence on both individuals and society. Psychiatric disorders are not treated by fruits, but fruits provide the essential nutrients required for the normal function of the brain and neurons. Fruit cultivation and consumption have a long history, and numerous fruits are mentioned in ancient and holy writings. Fruits are abundant in vitamins, minerals, and a variety of other micronutrients. Advancements in science and technology have demonstrated that fruits contain a variety of biologically active and therapeutically effective components. Fruit consumption provides multiple nutrients essential for the proper functioning of the brain and neurons, helping to suppress symptoms of depression. Several fruits are now being considered for their varied composition and potential health benefits. Due to its location near the equator and various weather conditions, the Himalayan regions are home to a variety of fruits. This chapter provides a thorough explanation of the nutritive value and chemical composition of numerous fruits that have bioactive properties against depression and anxiety.
