Abstract

This chapter provides the very foundation of nomenclature, structural changes and patterns of various disease processes like ‘cell injury’, ‘inflammation’ and ‘neoplasm’ among others. For undergraduate students and trainees of ‘surgical pathology’, it provides a quick overview of common infectious diseases, benign and malignant neoplasms including ‘grading’, ‘staging’ as well as pattern recognition. Finally it also provides concise description of commonly used ‘special’ and ‘immunohistochemical’ stains with relevant interpretation.
