Abstract

Teachers as agents of classroom change: Focus on early years' classroom assessment was a 2-year (2015-2017) project in rural East Africa (Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya). The primary purpose was to first document teachers' assessment practices and then use this to implement an extended professional development program and an Instructional Rounds learning process to enhance teachers' assessment for learning skills and practices. The data obtained from the observations of teachers and their professional learning was then used to develop the Assessment Guidelines: Early Years and Class 1-3. These guidelines became a source for further professional development for teachers throughout East Africa.
