Abstract
1. 1. Administration of cadmium (2 × 1.0 mg/kg/day) for 3 days produced a decrease in pancreatic RNA and DNA content, followed by a subsequent return to control values by the seventh day of treatment. 2. 2. The cadmium-inflicted alterations in nucleic acid levels were accompanied by an enhanced ability of the pancreas to incorporate 14C-thymidine into DNA. 3. 3. The cadmium-stimulated increase in pancreatic DNA synthesis appeared not to be associated with alterations in cyclic AMP and polyamine metabolism.
