Abstract

Education and Extremisms: Rethinking Liberal Pedagogies in the Contemporary World has sought to address one of the most vexed and pressing contemporary questions facing education practitioners, academics working on education, and policy and decision makers: how is education to respond to what is emerging as ‘an age of extremisms’? In the light of the contributions to this volume, our response has been to argue for a ‘refurbishment’ of liberal education as defined in the Introduction to this volume as the best way to ensure that 21st-century education is able to equip young people with the critical skills needed to deconstruct and critique extremist narratives.
