Abstract
Healthcare organizations increasingly recognize burnout andstress as major factors that compromise provider performance and patient care, affecting females more than males, and are linked to issues such as gender bias, pay disparities, and lack of female leaders. Due to rigid work structures and patriarchal ideals, women are still underrepresented in leadership positions, which endangers women's health and career continuity. This chapter employs a comprehensive 5Ss framework (Self, Society, State, Systems, Spirituality) to explore these issues. We examine cultural stereotypes and rigid policies under “Society” and “State,” which perpetuate gender inequities. “Systems” highlight workplace stressors, such as long hours, lack of childcare, and harassment. As essential stress-reduction strategies, the “Self” and “Spirituality” domains highlight resilience, self-care, peer support, and meaning-making. By combining these useful tools with cultural change, this chapter provides specific tactics for compassionate, gender-equitable organizations that support female healthcare professionals.
