Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinopathy in females of reproductive age associated with metabolic imbalances. It is a heterogeneous disease both by pathophysiology and severity of clinical outcomes. Making a diagnosis of PCOS in adolescence is challenging because of the absence of specific diagnostic criteria for this age group. Prevalence of PCOS in adolescent females is still undetermined because of scarce community-based studies. In addition, there is lack of normative values for several biochemical markers for the adolescent age group. The commonality between the features of PCOS and normal progression of puberty makes it challenging to make a diagnosis.
