Abstract
Stillbirth is a common adverse pregnancy outcome and of the approximately 2 million stillbirths that occur each year, about 15% are estimated to be caused by an infectious agent. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites all have been shown to be causal for stillbirth. While the numerical relationship between most infections and stillbirth has been little investigated, world-wide, malaria and syphilis are the infections most associated with stillbirth.
