Stroke in Tropical Countries

Abstract

According to world stroke organization, over 100 million people in the world have experienced stroke. It remains the second-leading cause of death, and the third-leading cause of death and disability combined (as expressed by disability-adjusted life-years lost - DALYs) in the world. There are some traditional risk factors for strokes that include high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking and certain cardiovascular risk factors like atrial fibrillation. This review article will discuss some unique diseases mostly prevalent in the tropical zones and those diseases have an association with stroke. The article will discuss the disease prevalence and their pathophysiology causing stroke and treatment.
